Day 1
On arrival into Phoenix, make your way to the airport area hotel booked for you and enjoy a relaxing overnight stay.
Day 2
Call Our Principals first thing to arrange the time for motorhome collection. Unless you have pre-purchased the 'Early Bird' departure special, you will make your own way by taxi to the rental office this afternoon. Once you have your motorhome, head southeast toward Tucson. Your total drive today is about 150 miles but do stop for a while at this desert oasis. Drive on and overnight at the Benson KOA.
Day 3/4
Head east 309 miles into New Mexico and overnight at the Las Cruces KOA for two nights. Head into the old town of Las Cruces for its excellent Mexican cuisine. Your campground has a great pool and great views but there is plenty more in the area to attract you.
Day 5
Take the scenic route - 311 miles - to Albuquerque, New Mexico and overnight at the Albuquerque Central KOA where the majestic Sadia Mountains provide nature's backdrop. Check the dates of the International Balloon Festival before October travel and book early! Worth it to see the hundreds of hot air balloons filling the sky.
Day 6
You are "On the way to Amarillo" today and about to "Get your kicks on Route 66". You'll be staying at at the Amarillo KOA on Folsom Road ... so you may just hear Johnny Cash in the distance... "I hear that train a-commin', it's rollin' around the bend, And I ain't seen the sunshine since I ..."
Day 7
More singing along as you drive the 287 miles to Abilene, Texas to overnight at the Abilene KOA with its wide open skies and breathtaking sunsets.
Day 8
254 miles to a high desert west Texas getaway - Fort Stockton KOA. Desert cactus and wildflowers and a café serving countrystyle pork ribs!
Day 9
A longer drive today, 363 miles. Fort Stockton to Big Bend National Park is 149 miles; drive straight through the park or maybe stop a while. You are aiming for Van Horn KOA to overnight.
Day 10/11
115 miles from Van Horn to Carlsbad Caverns, back in New Mexico. Spend two nights at the Carlsbad KOA. From here you can visit the spectacular caverns, the Living Desert State Park and even a UFO Museum, which just has to be a draw!
Day 12
Carlsbad to Silver City KOA is 306 miles. Silver City was the boyhood home of Billy the Kid and is now a great centre for art galleries, bookshops and antiques.
Day 13
Silver City, New Mexico and back into Arizona and the Apache Junction KOA, just outside Phoenix, is about 320 miles. This is your last overnight before returning.
Day 14
Only 18 miles to return your motorhome to Our Principals in Mesa, Arizona.
